Are you overestimate how hard you exercise?

Most of us tend to underestimate what we eat and overestimate the amount of exercise you do. A recent study published in the journal Plops one in May revealed that also overestimate how strong our physical activity, and how we should exercise to achieve health benefits.

Doctors and other health professionals often recommend exercise according to the guidelines of government standards, advise adults to participate in 150 minutes of moderate physical activity or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise each week. The duration of each session, or type of activity does not necessarily matter as long as it achieves and maintains preset intensity.

Researchers wonder at the University of York in Toronto sought to answer was whether the participants in the study, 129 Canadian sedentary adults between 18 and 64, you know that moderate exercise actually meant.

As many of them were not aware of what the current guidelines are, they have received the information and they said they understood and were convinced that they could respond. Many have said they believed the guidelines.

It turned out, however, that most of them carried out at a much slower rate than what could be considered moderate pace. Most of them said they sold a "languid pace," with only 25 percent to a rate that your heart rate in the moderate range.

Professor of sinology at the University of York, Jennifer L. UK, who oversaw the study, said the consequences were "worrying" in personal and public health. Only 15-25 percent of U.S. and Canadian adults report sufficient to meet exercise guidelines, but if a lot people exaggerate their efforts, there is even a big deal when it comes to the lack of physical activity of these surveys suggest.

Of course, any physical activity is better than nothing, but if you are hoping to achieve optimum health and fitness, make sure you work with the intensity that you think you are.

To check, take the pulse several times throughout your workout. It should be about 64-76 percent of your maximum heart rate for moderate exercise. During intense exercise, it should be about 77-90 percent of your maximum.

To understand what is your maximum heart rate formulas (approximate) are:
For men: 206 minus 69 percent of age. If you are a man of 50 years would be less than 206 (0.69 x 50) or 206 minus 35 = 171 beats per minute. Thus for vigorous exercise for a man of 50 years of maximum heart rate should be (0.9 x 171) = 154.

Exerciser women: 206 minus 88 percent of age. If you are a woman of 50 years would be less than 206 (0.88 x 50) or 206 minus 44 = 162 beats per minute. Thus for vigorous exercise for a woman 50 years old, your maximum heart rate should be (0.9 x 161) = 146.

Do not be confused as to how and how much exercise - the only person it hurts is you.
