Conventional milk versus organic

Washington State University recently conducted the first comprehensive comparison, the composition of organic and conventional milk. The study, published in Plops peer-one line, revealed an interesting revelation: organic milk has a healthier ratio of omega-6 fatty acids and omega-3 fatty acids.

A diet that contains omega-6 too and not enough omega-3 has been linked to a number of serious health problems like cancer, heart disease, inflammation and immune autoimmune diseases. This is considered due to the intestine becomes omega-6 fatty acid arachnoids acid, leading to inflammation.

Such as omega-3 provides more anti-inflammatory powers, which helps to counteract this reaction. The typical American diet contains a ratio of 10:1 omega-6 and omega-3, but research suggests that the relationship between the order of 2.1 to 2.3 to 1 is the best for optimal health.

The study found that organic milk has an omega-6 to omega-3 ratio of 2.28:1, which is considered close to perfection in terms of optimal nutrition - and well below the rate of 5.77 in conventional milk. WAS Researchers tested nearly 400 samples of organic and conventional milk over 18 months.

Author of the study and research professor of the Center for Sustainable Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Washington Charles Bankbook explained: "There is really no debate across the world - when you feed dairy cows more pasture, to improve the fatty acid profile of milk can also increase the level of protein ..

Furthermore, cows fed a diet of corn milk products is higher in omega-6 ... It is true that both Omega 6 and Omega 3 are essential - we have some of them. But when out of balance, the adverse health effects seem to kick in. "

Organic milk is more expensive, but the value you get in return is well worth paying a little more. Not only can you get a healthy ratio of omega-6 and omega-3, but do not get a lot of potentially harmful substances.

In simple terms, this is an overview of what the USDA requires that organic milk is labeled:

No growth hormones, rubs or rubs including
No antibiotics
No medications or other preventive determine
Cows should be fed on pasture for at least three months a year
Food must be 100% organic if cows are not on pasture
No animal by-products in feed
No artificial "feed" in food
The living conditions of the cows should allow movement and access to fresh air and sunlight
milksop's get the most benefits without harmful ingredients by choosing organic whole milk. Bankbook says. "Fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in the fat part of milk Whole milk is about 3.4 percent fat, so if you drink 2 percent instead of all, you're giving about half of that advantage. "

If you do not consume dairy products, remains an important topic to study message: reduce foods rich in Omega-6 and omega-3, such as fried foods, processed foods and fast fast food.
